Action button allegedly set for entire iPhone 16 lineup, including non-Pro models
Apple’s trend of introducing features initially exclusive to its high-end ‘Pro’ models to its entire iPhone range appears set to continue with the anticipated 2024 release of the iPhone 16. A recent report suggests that Apple intends to extend the Action button, currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro series, to the entire lineup of the iPhone 16.
MacRumors asserts strong evidence supporting the Action button’s integration into all four models of the iPhone 16. The evidence indicates a shift by Apple from a mechanical to a capacitive Action button for the iPhone 16 series, promising a touch-sensitive interface instead of the traditional press mechanism.
As per the report, internal documentation indicates that the revamped Action button in the forthcoming iPhone 16 lineup will feature a force sensor capable of detecting pressure changes. Alongside this enhancement, it will incorporate ‘tact-switching functionality,’ although specifics about this feature remain undisclosed.
Presently, the Action button is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. Users can choose from nine customization options for the Action button, including Silent mode, Focus, Camera, Flashlight, Voice Memo, Magnifier, Shortcuts, Accessibility, or No Action.
