Apple Intelligence now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac in the US; additional countries to gain support in December
Apple has officially launched its new personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, in the U.S. with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. This system, powered by Apple silicon, adds a range of AI-driven features across writing, mail, messages, and notifications while enhancing Siri’s capabilities. Image editing tools like the AI-powered Clean Up feature are also part of this update.
Starting today, Siri offers more natural conversation capabilities and an updated design, with a glowing light circling the screen edge when active on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. On Mac, Siri is repositionable on the desktop for ease of access. Users can now type to Siri and switch between text and voice, allowing Siri to keep context across multiple requests and support users by answering questions about Apple features and settings.
The Photos app now enables users to search using simple descriptions, enhanced by smart completion suggestions. The new Clean Up tool allows users to remove unwanted elements from photos by circling them on the screen.
Apple Intelligence offers summarized notifications on the Lock Screen, condensing long threads into quick previews. The Reduce Interruptions Focus feature filters for critical notifications only.
The Notes and Phone apps now support audio recording, transcription, and summary generation. When a call recording starts, participants are notified, and after the call, Apple Intelligence creates a summary to capture key points.
Currently available to U.S. users, Apple Intelligence will roll out to additional regions by December. Support for localized English will expand to Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K., with further language support set for April 2025, including Chinese, French, German, and more.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with iPhone 16 and 15 Pro models, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 processors, and Macs with M1 or later processors.
