Apple recognizes Billie Eilish as Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2024
Apple has named Billie Eilish as Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2024, making her the first artist to receive the honor twice, after winning the inaugural award in 2019.
This year has been monumental for Billie Eilish. She won her second Academy Award and two additional GRAMMYs for her song “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Her third album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, debuted at No. 1 on Apple Music’s all-genre charts in 138 countries and is widely regarded as her best work yet. Billie also performed her hit “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at the Summer Games closing ceremony, collaborated with Charli XCX on the summer anthem “Guess,” and is headlining her sold-out HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour, which extends into 2025.
She earned seven GRAMMY nominations this year, including Record, Album, and Song of the Year, further cementing her status as a generational talent. Her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, was listed among Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums earlier this year, while her latest work has solidified her evolution as an artist. Reflecting on the recognition, Billie said, “Apple Music has supported my music and artistry since day one, and I am honored to receive this recognition this many years into my career.”
Apple Music’s Rachel Newman praised Billie’s journey, stating, “She’s blossomed as bravely and honestly as she has — on her own terms.”
As a two-time winner, Billie now holds two of Apple Music’s unique awards. The design features a custom silicon wafer suspended between a polished glass sheet and a machined aluminum body. These wafers, which power Apple’s devices, are created through a multi-month process that results in a stunning and symbolic award celebrating the artists who shape music today.
