Apple Intelligence expands with new localized English support in additional countries
With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple has expanded Apple Intelligence, now offering localized English support in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. This update enables users to access a range of new features, including Writing Tools that help refine text by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing in Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. Users can also create unique Genmoji by typing descriptions or selecting photos of friends and family, explore ChatGPT’s vast knowledge across iOS, and create playful images with Image Playground.
Until now, Apple Intelligence only supported US English, but today’s update makes it more accessible globally. Over the next year, Apple plans to expand support to more languages, including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and more.
Siri has also been updated with a new design and improved language understanding, now drawing on Apple Intelligence. Siri can now take action across apps, provide better product knowledge about devices, and offer a more personalized experience. The update also includes the ability to type to Siri.
Additionally, with the integration of ChatGPT from OpenAI, Siri and Writing Tools can now tap into ChatGPT’s capabilities for specific tasks, such as answering questions about photos or documents. The new Compose feature in Writing Tools allows users to create and illustrate original content from scratch.
Users have control over when ChatGPT is used and will be notified before any information is shared. Access to ChatGPT is free for all users, though subscribers can connect their accounts to unlock paid features.
To use Apple Intelligence, users need an iPhone 15 or later (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series), or an iPad and Mac with an M1 chip or later.
