Apple has reportedly begun mass production of its next-generation M5 chip, with sources suggesting the new siliconcould launch as soon as later this year. The M5 chip is expected to debut in upcoming MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models.
According to ET News (via MacRumors), Apple started packaging the M5 chip last month, signaling one of the final stages in its production process. Taiwan’s TSMC is responsible for the full-process chip fabrication, while packaging is handled by Taiwan’s ASE, America’s Amco, and China’s JCET. ASE began the first mass production run, with Amco and JCET expected to follow sequentially.
The initial production is reportedly for the base M5 chip, with Apple’s more powerful M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra processors expected to launch at a later date.
The M5 series is anticipated to feature an enhanced ARM architecture and will be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer process technology, offering improved performance and efficiency over its predecessors.
