Alibaba Chairman Joe Tsai has confirmed that the Chinese e-commerce giant’s AI division has partnered with Apple to bring advanced AI features to iPhone users in China. This collaboration mirrors Apple’s approach outside of China, where its devices integrate Apple Intelligence with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Tsai revealed that Apple had explored multiple AI partnerships before ultimately selecting Alibaba.
“They talked to a number of companies in China,” Tsai said. “In the end, they chose to do business with us. They want to use our AI to power their phones. We feel extremely honored to work with a great company like Apple.”
It is understood that both Alibaba and Apple have submitted materials to authorities to formalize the partnership.
