Next-gen AirTag to feature upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, louder speaker, more

Apple is rumored to be preparing a second-generation AirTag for release in 2025, featuring a more advanced Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip that will significantly improve tracking range, enhance Precision Finding, and include a louder internal speaker.
The original AirTag launched in April 2021. It quickly became a popular item-tracking accessory thanks to its integration with Apple’s Find My network — a crowdsourced system that uses millions of Apple devices to help locate lost items even when they’re far from the owner’s iPhone.
While Apple has yet to confirm a release window for the next-generation model, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that trial production began in Asia last year. The upgraded UWB chip is expected to extend Precision Finding capabilities from the current 10–30 meters to potentially three times that range, allowing users to locate their belongings more accurately over longer distances.
Design-wise, the new AirTag is expected to maintain its compact, button-style form factor and continue using a replaceable CR2032 battery. However, the internal speaker is rumored to get an upgrade, making it louder and easier to hear in noisy environments.
